I replied to this before, but I can't find it.. I have worked as an environmental consultant for over 20 years. started my career with Groundwater Technology, Inc in 1985, worked in many states in US and internationally since then but, unfortunately, am now unemployed and again looking for work. I will say that there are varied duties in the environmental consulting world. I was exposed to field work and office tasks that included gauging water levels in monitoring wells, sampling monitoring wells, sampling soil, supervising drilling of soil borings and monitoring wells, conducting aquifer tests and method specific remedial feasibility tests.. the list goes on. I found doing aquifer tests and remedial feasibilty tests the most interesting, but when I started out, drilling monitoring wells and performing sampling and gauging of the wells was also interesting. Office tasks included mostly technical report writing, scheduling of drilling and sampling activities and proposal and workplan writing. It ususally involved a mixture of reporting on investigative activites and planning remedial designs and implementation schedules based on the data and interpretations. There is a variety of contaminants, someof which you will get to know very well. Its an interesting field if you like learning, variety and everchanging work.
