I am fairly new to this forum and thought I might introduce myself. I am a building energy rater and run the business Green Rate in Melbourne.

I perform the mandatory 6-Star Energy Ratings for proposed new homes, prior to building approval. I also provide the equivalent in the commercial building arena, which involves the preparation of a Section J Report (also known as a Part J report).

The purpose of these assessments is to ensure that new buildings are designed and constructed to minimise the amount of energy they will need to artificially heat and cool. In addition, new to the BCA regulations in 2011 are certain provisions for efficient design of artificial lighting and pool and spa heaters and pumps.

When designs are brought to us for an energy rating and they do not meet the minimum requirements for energy efficiency, it is our job to put forward a range of options and recommendations for changes to the design and/or specifications. This usually involves addressing areas such as insulation, glazing, building sealing, lighting, and shading.

I have investigated more than 800 bore wells for drinking and agricultural purposes by using geophysical and geo-hydrological methods. The data so obtained by geophysical methods are fed to computer for the interpretation of the layers and locate fissures, joints, and fractures based on the anomalies. I used to use the master curves for layers. We also use the satellite remote sensing methods to find water bodies and lithology of the site. I have also investigated through geophysical methods for airport and other construction sites. I have also done radial geophysical survey to obtain a 2-dimension view. I have also done 24 channel seismic survey, and VLFs to locate aquifer in dry terrines. I have done well logging while drilling and stratification is done based on the observation there by and recommendations are given to driller. I have also drilling experience with TH55 and other rigs. I was the first in Karnataka to drill deepest tube well on a hill for the water.

Thought many assistant Geologists, for Geo-physical investigation and its interpretations. I have thought how to read satellite maps. Thought water quality on site tests using UN and UNICIF standard.

The hazardous chemicals used to produce plastic have been associated with long term ecological degradation and human health hazard. Plastics are everywhere and are being used globally. For examples the cars, computers, clothes, toys, and packaging are just some of the uses. Data released by the United State Protection Agency, shows that somewhere between 500 billion and a trillion plastic bags are consumed each year. This points to the fact that plastics play an imperative part in our everyday lives and seems that the use is inescapable.

However, confirmation is mounting that the chemical building blocks that make plastics so versatile are the same components that might harm people and the environment. Plastic buried deep in landfills can leach harmful chemicals that spread into groundwater, and are more likely to kill several living organisms beneath the earth surface. Additionally, the chemical substances in their production, like benzene, vinylchloride, have been identified as contrubuting factors to some types of cancer. Besides, some compounds used in manufacturing plastic have been found to alte hormones or have other potential human health effects.

One of the solutions to curb this life threaten situation is legislation. This means every nation should enact a law that will oblige manufacturer companies producing plastic, to treat it as a reusable material rather than as a disposable commodity. They should make plastic more easily recyclable from the get-go by using fewer materials in the manufacturing process and increasing recycling facility

In the Building Code of Australia, BCA Section J sets the criteria for a non residential building to meet the energy efficiency requirements of the BCA in order to satisfy the Local Government Area Council of a development for issuing a Construction Certificate. Since the introduction of the BCA 2010, Section J has seen the most significant changes compared to all other sections of the BCA and energy efficiency requirements of this section has become far more stringent compared to previous releases of the BCA. Not only the structure of this section is changed, there are many new technologies and elements in relation to the energy efficiency performance of a commercial building that now must be evaluated versus the BCA Section J requirements.

How are India and China going to manage their growing energy requirements as they economies grow at incredible speeds? Both countries will do many new things, but most likely each will follow different courses...

Both countries are likely to more eagerly court the oil producing countries, whether or not they like it. Both countries are likely to place higher emphasis on renewable energy. Beyond these two major approaches however, the specifics for each country could be quite different (here's a presentation that provides India's perspective on this).

One can expect India to be a bit more sensitive to world opinion in this regard than China, and I guess that should not really surprise anyone.
